Description
Joachim Murat was one of Napoleon's most celebrated marshals. As king of Naples (1808-1815), he lent stimulation to Italian nationalism. His reputation as a daring leader of cavalry earned him the hand of Napoleon's sister, Caroline, and sovereignty of Naples. In 1815 he made a last, hopeless attempt to recover Naples virtually unaided but was taken prisoner and shot
