Rhodes, William John (fl. 1836-1856), ship's purser, Crimean War

Photocopies of typed transcriptions of letters from Rhodes to his mother and his sister Ella whilst purser of the S.S. Lady Jocelyn, acting as a hospital transport in the Crimean War, describing journeys through the Mediterranean to and from the theatre of war. Creator of transcriptions not known.

Deposited (at the Wellcome Unit, Oxford) by Lt.-Col. H.C.M. Watson, F.R.C.Path., whose maternal grandfather Charles Rhodes (1840-1881) was William John Rhodes' younger brother; transferred to Wellcome Library 1996.
