About this work

Description

One print in a series of portraits of French painters. However Jacques Rousseau, as a Huguenot, left France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) and fled to London, where he died. As a result, Aubert had no portrait of him to engrave, and therefore left the cartouche blank
