After a varying number of days the plaque disappears for the second time, but may again, after a second short interval, make itself manifest for the third time. Details concerning points of interest in this connection with the several appearances of the plaques may be observed in the accompanying table. It must be understood that there is a difference between the course of the reappearance and the third appearance of a plaque within a few days of the disappear- ance of the first and second, and that of a totally new plaque which may appear later in the course of the cutaneous symptoms and occupy either a smaller or larger area than that previously taken up. This matter is mentioned for the reason that the pathological changes which take place in the two forms of plaques are different. The cause of a primary plaque is similar to that which may appear](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b3284573x_0039.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
