Lettering on envelope consists of: handwritten description of patient, written in 1896, subsequently revised and extended in 1901; printed letters "O.H.M.S." (On Her Majesty's Service); and, in some cases, printed insignia of the "1st Glo'stershire Artillery Vol[untee]rs. Fidus et audax"
