About this work
Description
Britain's ageing population is causing issues with funding their care. In Hartlands Hospital in Birmingham, Betty, has a broken leg with an open ulcer. Social Services look after the welfare of people leaving hospital; they assess Betty's ability to cope when she returns home especially as her home is not safe. Jim Page is also in hospital after a fall at home. His family are preparing his home for his return; he has dementia and they have to move his bed downstairs and provide him with a commode. He was only recently bereaved. He is entitled to 4 visits a day with social services. Jim is very confused. Back in hospital, Betty is adamant that she wants to do things her way. Henry is in hospital with a bad back and has also acquired a lung infection in hospital. Betty has some affecting views of her old age. Upon completion of filming Henry and Jim have passed away and Betty is back in hospital.
