Description

G. Grey Turner is on the right, having taken off his face mask. He "was professor of surgery at Newcastle from 1927 until 1934. He then became the first director of surgery at the new British Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith where he remained until 1946"--Oxford dictionary of national biography, Oxford 2004. The photograph shows his "last oper[ating] day" before his retirement. On the left is a female colleague still wearing her surgical mask. Both are wearing rubber gloves
