About this work

Description

Illustration of onion from an onion ring as seen through a scanning electron microscope. Onion from an onion ring no longer conforms to the more ordered underlying structure found in raw onion (similar to cracks or fracture lines in rocks), and instead appears solid and rough with scattered round clusters possibly composed of oil. Width of image is 1260 micrometres. These drawings form part of a series of work "Raw to Processed" which considers food and its relationship to health, looking at patterns in the structure of food and how these change when food is processed.
