The photograph is probably of a painting by Anton Joseph Wiertz (1806-1865) known as The precipitate burial. The painting is a protest against the premature burial of those not quite dead during an epidemic of cholera. The painting is in the Musée Wiertz in Brussels; a museum built for Wiertz by the state of Brussels in 1850
