About this work
Description
Dr. Newman's lecture illustrations consist of footage of cows suffering from gangrene as a result of eating ergot infected grass. Initially we see, in colour, two cows in a courtyard - the camera focuses especially on their hooves and tails which are mostly affected by the gangrene. Then there is some black and white footage of cows in a field who are unable to stand, fall down, shake and walk with an unsteady, loping gait. Finally there is a short piece of footage, black and white, of sheep with the same malady. The film possibly has links with Coopers, McDougall & Robertson, manufacturers of drugs for vets brought out by Wellcome in the 1950s.
