About this work
Description
Although we are using less and less antibiotics in the UK, are the problems caused by their previous overuse irreversible? It is now thought that overuse of antibiotics might be linked to breast cancer, Crohn's disease and childhood asthma. There are also problems with antibiotic resistant superbugs like MRSA, currently invading our hospitals. Mark Porter investigates how antibiotics work, the nature of superbugs like MRSA, and what our future treatment options are likely to be. And how useful are probiotics in helping us avoid the bad effects of antibiotics?
