Description
In the cabinet of Caesar Nostradamus, containing books, vessels, distilling apparatus and a telescope. He pulls aside a curtain to reveal a vision of King Henri IV enthroned in the rays of the sun. A cupid holding a torch flies out of the vision towards Marie, bringing her a crown of flowers. Caesar Nostradamus (César de Nostredame) was a historian of Provence. The episode appears to have been fabricated by Ransonnette for the dedicatee, the Comte de Provence, subsequently King Louis XVIII
King Henri IV married Marie de' Medici in 1600. Their son was King Louis XIII of France
