The convocations of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, going in pompous procession to St. Mary's Church, Oxford, in order to maintain a public disputation (appointed by Queen Mary, April 14 1555) with those protestant worthies Archbishop Cranmer, Bishop Ridley, & Bishop Latimar. The burning bones of Bucer and Phagius (as above represented) with a number of protestant books took place at the visitation of Cardinal Pole, the Pope's legate, at Cambridge, Feby. 6 1557. - These two German divines were invited to England by Archbishop Cranmer to be public instructors and preachers in Cambridge, where they died and were buried, the former in St. Mary's Church, and the latter in St. Michaels, but whose bones could not escape the vengence of the Papists. The bones of the Revd. Messrs. Bucer & Phagius burnt 9 years after their death at Cambridge. Engraved by Myers.
