Description

The 4th part of an 8-part series in which Dr. Alice Roberts, doctor and anatomist, explores the workings of the human body. This part focuses on the stomach and intestines. Roberts meets Les Love, a woman who lives on nothing but chocolate, cheese and coffee; she is tested to see if the lack of vitamins and fibre in her diet is affecting her health; Roberts and Love undergo a test to see how long it takes for sweet corn to travel through their digestive systems. Roberts has a capsule endoscopy which enables her to see her entire intestinal tract. Pre-biotic and pro-biotic foods are tested by Glenn Gibson and we see Graham, a man with bowel cancer, undergo keyhole surgery to remove a section of his bowel.
