About this work

Description

"Pizzicaruolo", a form of "pizzicaiuolo", a variant of "pizzicagnolo", i.e. someone who manages a "pizzicheria" (delicatessen, druggists or spice shop). However it also has a literary application, referring to literary texts, considered of little value, which might be used as wrapping papers for foodstuffs bought from a pizzicheria. In that sense the present portrait would be of a dealer or author of cheap literature--Battaglia, loc. cit.
