About this work
Description
The last in a three-part series looking in depth at the challenging and inspiring work of specialist paediatricians at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, London. This part focuses on the work of the kidney unit which treats children with some of the world's most serious kidney diseases. We see the stories of 12-year-old Jack who was rushed to hospital with sudden kidney failure and newborn baby Alisha who was born with kidney failure. 14-year-old Imaan needs a kidney transplant but is reluctant to undergo the surgery. She has been on dialysis for over 3 years and her kidneys are gradually failing which will start to have a bad effect on other areas of her health. Her friend on the kidney unit, Tasleem, has had three transplants, all of which have failed, and she faces an uncertain future. The programme includes conversations amongst consultants about individual cases.
