Enzyme complexes on mitochondrial cristae

Freeze-fracture, scanning electron micrograph of part of a mitochondrion. Folded membranes called cristae are covered with enzyme complexes (the small lumps on the finger-like projections.) These enzymes release energy for use by the cell.
