The magistrate is reading by candle-light: "Etymology - Radical. ex Radix. is a root & Calor is heat. angor. strife - q.d. the root of all strife"; on the floor beside him a book lies open: "Burns. Justice - Treason", on the bookshelves: "History of Babylon", "History of vie French Revolution", "History of Rebellion". He exclaims: "In the name of Satan, what - imp are you, & where was you hatched?!!!", the demon replies: "In Hell your worship, I'm a radical, give me leave to present you a list of a few of my best friends". The demon is wearing and stands on a bonnet-rouge; he holds two spikes, one spearing the Bible and bearing a Bishop's head and the other spearing the Magna Charta and bearing a crown and flag inscribed: "Blood! Blood!! Blood!!! Reform & plunder - Watson, Thistlewood, Waddington, Harrison, Hunt, Pearson, Wood, Waithman, Parkins & c. & c. - Cobbet, Carlile, Tom Pain, Burdett, Little Hobb, Death & the Devil - no King - no God"
