Biographical note

The author was a pupil of J. Hunter and Cline in London in 1789 and qualified in 1791 as surgeon. He was appointed professor at the newly established London Veterinary College in 1793 and later to the Army Veterinary Service which was largely of his creation. [Cf. Smith (Sir F.). History of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. 1927, pp. 13-111].
