    FOREWORD XIX Simpson, Dobzhansky, Mayr and Stebbins. We are certainly not ready for a new moult, but signs of new organs are perhaps visible. The papers here collected represent points of view too diverse to be capable of co- adaptation at present. They certainly achieved less unity than did the symposiasts of Princeton. This is not a bad sign. It points forward to a broader synthesis in the future.
