Description
An episode in Paul et Virginie, 1788, by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre. In an early episode Paul and Virginie ask a pipe-smoking landowner to pardon an emaciated woman slave who has fled from him, but in the present engraving the slave appears to be a man and not emaciated
