Description
Photomacrograph of grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) on a strawberry. Moulds are fungi that live on plant and animal matter and need moisture to thrive and grow. This particular fungus is very common and is often found on plants grown in humid conditions such as in glass houses where it produces grey fuzzy mould. It is a common disease of soft fruit such as strawberries, grapes and gooseberries. Under drier conditions, Botrytis cinerea can also cause noble rot, which is used in the wine industry to produce some sweet dessert wines. Width of image is 1 cm.
