About this work
Description
Alastair Campbell, former right hand man to Tony Blair, explores the world of alcoholism amongst the professional classes. He talks about his own addiction to alcohol and meets other people who have struggled to overcome the urge to consume alcohol. Given that the figures of alcoholic liver disease have increased so greatly over the last few years, why is this epidemic occurring and how did it start? Campbell traces back how the introduction of wine into the UK from abroad, then the 24 hour licensing that occurred in 2005 may have contributed. However, medics say that most people who drink to excess do so at home.
