Biographical note
Edward Archer (1718-1789) M.D., studied medicine in Edinburgh and later at Leyden, graduating in 1746, after which he was elected physician at the Smallpox Hospital in 1747. He was both an advocate and practicioner of inoculation before the introduction of vaccination.
