Description

Photograph of a selection of pestles and mortars which were part of the exhibition History of Pharmacy, held in the Main Hall at the Wellcome Research Institution, London, 4 May - 28 September 1951 (the opening coinsided with the Festival of Britain). The selection includes an Egyptian mortar made of stone and calcite, a Roman bronze mortar, a Portuguese mortar made of ivory, English and Continental bronze mortars.
