About this work
Description
Meetings of the Board of Directors generally took place monthly, with months missed out during holiday periods, or because of the end of a financial year.
Matters discussed include the appointment of directors and staff, market conditions and the performance of the company, specific products - and their success or failure, as well as general administrative points. There is no information of an especially sensitive nature, although some mention is made of staff salary levels and remuneration received by directors. Incidental remarks about the political situation in Northern & Southern Rhodesia, Nyasaland, and neighbouring countries, are made, usually when the situation has impacted upon the company - for example when unrest has forced up the cost of housing in a particular town, thus necessitating an increase in the allowance paid to the representative.
On p. 52 a proposal to operate a joint depot with Burroughs Wellcome & Co is rejected. On pages 114, 117 & 135 a proposal to share services with BW&Co is discussed.
PVT is an accepted abbreviation for a Private limited company, under the relevant local legislation.
A few copies of papers have been endorsed to show that they are copies for the attention of C L J Wardley.
