M0017188: Double bladed concealed bistoury, a pair of scissors and a small amputation saw, 16th to 17th century

Photograph of three surgical instruments. At the top is a double-blanded concealed bistoury made of steel. It was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum at an unknown point and accessioned in 1959 (accession number R12/1959). The surgical scissors are 16th century Spanish and are made of damascened steel inlaid with gold with hollowed blades and brass handles. They were acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and accessioned in 1917 (accession number R13195). The amputation saw is 16th century Spanish with a handle inlaid with ivory. It was acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and accessioned in 1945 (accession number R8/1945). None of the items are held by Wellcome Collection.
