    Health, under and by virtue of the Public Health Act, 1848, id the Public Health Supplemental Act, 1850, (No. 2.) should altered; and they having therefore, pursuant to the pro- _^ions of the 141st section of the Public Health Act, 1848, Greeted me, William Lee, one of the Superintending Inspectors •pointed for the purposes of the said Act, to visit the said istrict, and to make inquiry with a view to the alteration of the mndaries of the said district: Now therefore, I, the said William Lee, do hereby give itice, that on the 26th instant, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon, the public office, I will proceed upon the said inquiry, and lat I shall then and there be prepared to hear all persons lesirous of being heard before me on the subject of the said hquiry. Dated this 5th day of March, 1851. William Lee. At the inquiry as above, Mr. John Palby having proved lat the notices had been duly affixed, I briefly explained to le inhabitants present the provisions of the Act relative to the !quiry. The following evidence was then given. Mr. Joseph Kidger said :— I am surveyor to the Local Board of Healih in the Ashby district, ■lid am well acquainted with the boundaries. We have found a great iconvenience from the existing boundary because it includes nearly the hole of the highways, while at the same time a very large portion of |he land, heretofore liable to the maintenance of the highways, and 'ther local charges, is now excluded, and consequently released from |uch obligation. This anomaly was discovered in the making out of the first rate. The effect is not only to release the land beyond the existing loundary from an obligation to which it was previously liable, but also o increase the burdens upon the land and buildings within the district, [o the same extent. Mr. William Shaw, farmer, said :— I and my son occupy the whole of the isolated part of the parish if Ashby, called Alton Granges, and I think that land ought not to be ncluded in the district. On inquiry, however, it appeared that Alton Granges was ated to the relief of the poor of the parish, and had always •en liable to the general rate for the repair of the highways. Mr. Thomas Shaw objected that, as the Local Board had aken the management of the lighting, the land would have to tay rates for such purpose; but it appeared that the land has »een accustomed to contribute to these and other objects under Ithe General Watching and Lighting Act, while the Local iBoard of Health would be enabled to fix a special district for
