Biographical note
In 1939 the terms of reference of the pre-existing Finance and Staff Sub-committee (for which no records remain in this collection) were enlarged, enabling it, by a delegation of powers, to transact all the business of the Association between meetings of the Executive Committee, which were consequently reduced in frequency to quarterly. From this date it became known as the Finance, Staff and General Purposes Sub-committee, changing to the Finance, Staff, Membership and Emergency Sub-committee in May 1941 and the Finance, Staff and Emergency Sub-committee from June 1943, after a separate Membership Committee was established. In 1950 the Committee was divided into the General Purposes Sub-committee and the Finance, Staff and Membership Sub-committee. In 1978 these two were replaced by three new Sub-committees with the titles Finance, Staff and General Purposes, Membership and General Purposes, and Professional and General Purposes. No records for the last exist in the collection.
