    EEPOET ON THE CHOLERA WHICH VISITED HER MAJESTY'S BLACK SEA FLEET IN THE AUTUMN OF 1854. By B. G. BABINGTON, M.D., President of the Epidemiological Society of London. Elaborate and numerous as have been the reports and in- vestigations promulgated from various places in this and other countries with relation to Asiatic Cholera, there yet has re- niamed a source of information freer from the contamination of preconceived notions and prejudices, and furnishing there- fore more reliable data than most others for studyino- the disease, from its first outbreak to its final disappearance, i allude to information supplied by our brethren on board her Majesty's fleets in the Black Sea and in the Baltic, where cho era was so prevalent and so destructive during the autumn of the year 1854. Every man-of-war has one or more medical officers on board, who are regularly educated members of our profession, and who have all been proved competent by examination, not only under the Royal Colleges of Physicians or Surgeons ot the empire, but hkewise under the professional head of her Majesty's Naval Medical Service; they are, therefore, as a whole, thoroughly competent medical witnesses and ob- servers, and at least as likely to be impartial as any other members of our body.
