Description
Notebook containing notes on materia medica, with copy letters to various correspondents on the same subject. Correspondents include Professor N.J.B.G. Guibourt (1790–1867), French pharmacist, Dr T.W.C. Martius, German pharmacist, Dr Wilhelm Mettenheimer, of Giessen, Sidney H Maltass, of Smyrna, Turkey, Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785–1865), botanist, Sir John Bowring (1792–1872), British consul at Canton, William Freeman Daniell (1818–1865), botanist in Sierra Leone, William Lockhart (1811–1896), missionary at Shanghai, Thomas Thomson (1817–1878), botanist at Calcutta, James Vaughan (1818–1864), surgeon at Aden, and George Henry Kendrick Thwaites (1812–1882), botanist in Ceylon. Some of the plants and other substances described are illustrated by pen sketches.
There are also several printed notices of consignments of imported drugs lying at London docks pasted in.
