About this work

Description

Experimental notebooks relating to DNA research, compiled by Clive Williams Hooper, postdoctoral researcher, Medical Research Council (MRC) Biophysics Unit, King’s College London, 1955-1957. Contents include: notes on the preparation of samples, including thymocytes and thymus nuclei; tables of intensity observations relating to ‘A’ form x-ray diffraction images of ‘A’ form DNA, followed by mathematical analysis using Patterson technique and Fourier transforms; loose inserts including additional calculations and photographic prints of an x-ray diffraction pattern created using a photo reducing mask (in a technique developed by Hooper, William Etienne Seeds and Alexander Rawson Stokes, and described in ‘Photographic preparation of masks of large molecules for the Lipson diffractometer’, Nature, 1955). One volume originally titled ‘Hooper? 1956 DNA’.
