Biographical note
The Commission was carried out from 1975 to 1977. Shortly after the Commission's report was published, the Contraception, Sterilisation, and Abortion Act 1977 was passed. This formed the country's core legislation which was considerably more restrictive than the 1967 Act in the UK, but allowed for abortion in cases where certain criteria were met.
